How Much Do Home Improvements Increase Your House Value?

Here at Revamp we work with lots of different clients, on various home improvement projects. Some clients come to us because they want to change their home for a better home lifestyle. Other clients come to us because they are looking to sell their home in the future and want to increase the value of their home.

We recently came across some research by YourMoney.com that looked at how much value home improvements can add to the average home. The source for this research was Sainsbury’s Bank and the results are as follows, in order of the highest increase in value to the lowest;

Which Home Improvements Add The Most Value To Your Home?

  • Double Storey Extension:

A double storey extension to the rear or side of your home will increase your house value by around 20%.

  • Single Storey Extension

Meanwhile a single storey extension either to the side or rear of your home will still add value to your home, but it will be 4% less added value than a double storey extension, at 16% increase.

  • Loft Conversion

A 16% increase in your house value can also be gained from a loft conversion when the home improvement project has been completed to create one or more extra rooms in the loft.

  • New Kitchen

A new kitchen could increase your home value by up to 15% when done professionally and completed to a high standard.

  • Basement Conversion

If you have a basement and were to convert this into an extra room this would increase your house value by around 14%.

  • New Bathroom

While a new kitchen could add up to 15% to the value of your home, a new bathroom would increase your house value by up to 13%.

  • En-suite

Interestingly an en-suite to an existing bedroom would also increase your house value by 13%.

  • Off Street Parking

It seems home buyers would prefer parking at the front of the house, instead of a front garden in many cases. If you can offer off-street parking you can increase the value of your home by up to 11%.

  • Conservatory

An 11% increase in your house value can also be achieved if you have a conservatory on your home. A conservatory offers additional living space and a bright and airy room, which home buyers love.

  • Landscaped Garden

Did you know that a landscaped garden can add around 9% to the value of your home? This can be a relatively simple home improvement project that will hardly affect you when you are living in your home, but will have incredible results.
